DLsite is Japan’s largest download store for independent creator (doujin) works, operated by Eisys since 1996. Before We Get to Payments — Check Your DLsite Settings First
Before choosing a payment method, there’s one thing worth doing first: open DLsite and confirm your language and currency settings are correct. This takes 30 seconds and can save you confusion later.
Once it’s open, check these two things in the top-right area of the page:
- Language: Should say “English” (or your preferred language). If it shows Japanese, scroll to the bottom of the page and change it.
- Currency display: Prices are always charged in JPY (Japanese yen), but DLsite can show approximate prices in your local currency for reference. This setting doesn’t change what you’re actually charged — just what you see.
Now you’re ready to look at payment options.
Creating an Account
Registration is free and takes under five minutes.
- Go to DLsite and click 「ユーザー登録」 (New Registration) in the top right
- Enter your email address and verify it
- Set a password and date of birth (18+ required for R18 content)
- You can switch the site language to English at the bottom of the page
- Google and X (Twitter) accounts can also be used to sign up
Payment Methods
DLsite’s payment options changed significantly in 2024. Here’s the accurate picture as of early 2026:
Method 1: JCB Credit Card (most straightforward if you have one)
JCB is the only major credit card brand that works reliably on DLsite for all content. If you already have a JCB card issued outside Japan (available in many countries through partner banks), this is the simplest option — just enter your card number at checkout like any other purchase.
Method 2: DLsite Points via third-party sites (works with Visa/MC/Amex/PayPal)
Even though you can’t use Visa or Mastercard directly on DLsite, you can use them to buy DLsite Points through third-party point purchase sites. The points are then redeemed on DLsite like a gift card.
Point Market — uses Amazon Pay (requires an Amazon Japan account, which accepts international Visa/MC/Amex):
Go to point-market.com → choose a point amount → pay via Amazon Japan → receive a serial code → redeem on DLsite under MY Page → 「ポイント購入」→「シリアルコード入力」
For Books — uses Shopify, accepts Visa/MC directly:
Go to forbooks.jp → purchase DLsite points → receive code by email → redeem on DLsite the same way
Method 3: DLsite Gift Card codes from regional resellers
In some regions, DLsite Gift Card codes are sold by local digital game stores for local payment methods. If you’re in a country with limited card options, search for “DLsite Gift Card” on local game key retail sites — many accept regional wallets, bank transfers, and convenience stores.

If Your Payment Is Declined
DLsite’s payment processor changes periodically, meaning a card that worked before may stop working. There’s no public list of which cards are accepted. If your JCB is declined:
- Try a different card — results can vary even between JCB cards from different banks
- Switch to Point Market or For Books to purchase points with Visa/MC instead
- Some users report success with virtual card services that issue JCB numbers
This is a known issue with DLsite’s system, not a problem with your card.
Finding Works
Search by RJ Number
Every work on DLsite has a unique RJ Number (e.g., RJ01560861). If a work is recommended on Reddit, X, or a review site, paste the RJ Number directly into DLsite’s search bar to go straight to its page.
English-Translated Works
DLsite has a community translation system called 「みんなで翻訳」. Filter for English-translated works by selecting “English” in the language filter when searching. The catalog of translated works is growing but still limited compared to the full Japanese library. For ASMR specifically, many works are enjoyable without translation since the experience is primarily audio-based.
How to Play
After purchasing, works appear in 「購入済み作品」 (Purchased Works) in your MY Page. Three ways to listen:
PC download: Download the ZIP file from your purchase history and play with any audio player.
DLsite Play (browser streaming): Stream directly in your browser without downloading. Works on desktop and mobile. Reliable fallback if the app has issues.
DLsite Sound app (iOS/Android) — recommended: The dedicated audio player with equalizer presets, privacy lock screen, and streaming support. Search “DLsite Sound” in your app store and log in with your existing DLsite account.
Coupons and Sales
DLsite distributes discount coupons almost every week — typically 15–18% off on one or more items. Check the 「クーポン」(Coupon) page on DLsite before every purchase. Turn on email notifications in your account settings to avoid missing them.
There are around six major sales per year, with discounts up to 70%. Voice and ASMR content has the highest participation rate of any category. Adding works to your Wishlist (「お気に入り」) will notify you when they go on sale.
DL Points earned on purchases (1–5% back depending on membership level) never expire as long as you use the daily check-in feature, which gives 1 free point per day.
